We've all taken part in the lifecycle of a fashion trend right? Think back to 2006, when women's fedoras really started becoming popular. In the beginning wearing them felt a little ridiculous, but the longer they were around the more we saw them. The delicate jewelry trend, on the other hand, is a pendulum swing back from the chunky statement necklaces of a few years ago.

Whenever you're wearing a skirt that won't stop riding up, pull it over your boobs, dunk your butt in some denim and call it a style epiphany.

Predicting trends is part science and part intuition. They are worn by early adopters first, but they gradually grow until they hit mainstream and people become bored with them. With fast fashion knocking off runways at record speed, trends are hitting mainstream really quickly. The most recent fashion weeks brought us some extreme street fashion. The race to newness is becoming more frenzied than ever, so it makes sense that having an unorthodox look is becoming the stamp of the true fashionista.

Instagram style stars like Hailey Baldwin and Gigi Hadid are early adopters. Their outfits aren't going to show up at our local mall any time soon, but they are riveting nonetheless. Their dedication to fashion goes a long way towards growing their followings.

As for us, we'll just stick to understated riffs on what the early adopters are doing. One of our favorite style blogs is J's Everyday Fashion. The trends Jeanette shows are on point but also wearable. Whatever the choices are, there is no question that the trend cycle is moving faster than ever before. The constant stream of fads make it easier than ever to become a fashion victim. Our bottom line? We have to wear our clothes rather than let them wear us.
